Madden NFL 13 is the 2012 release in Electronic Arts' celebrated American football video game release. And there are thankfully roster updates, which happen automatically, so don't worry about the Wii version having outdated teams.Single-player, Multiplayer ( 4), Online ( 4) You don't get the same options and modes as you would in the 360/PS3 version, but you can play online in a fairly competent structure. Madden on Wii has never been about the online experience, but online play is here in its limited format. Improved features like a slightly smarter GameFlow that picks better plays for you do little to make Madden NFL 12 stand out. Every year there was something new in the Wii version to draw me to the game and make me try it, but now it's harder to recommend because if you played last year's Madden, you played this year's Madden too.

However, for a series that has consistently innovated year after year, simply getting a more improved version of last year's game feels disappointing.
For youngsters, or hell, even just someone who wants a really casual football experience, Madden NFL 12 is a fun game. The games have, at their best, focused on providing an easy to pick up, arcade-style football experience, more than a sim, and Madden NFL 12 does it well. The core game provides that more streamlined, family friendly (read: easier), Madden experience, which is the strength of the Wii version. So long, in fact, that I was getting bored of the game as a whole before I was getting enough powerups to be useful. Using the powered up footballs gives the game a Madden Arcade feel, which is great, but it takes a long time to earn these things. Earn enough awards and you can get special uniforms, and even balls that affect the game. Added to this year's game are "awards" that basically act as Achievements.
Fast paced gameplay, combined with an easy to use control scheme and a lot of style and flair makes the Wii Madden one of the more lighthearted and just genuinely fun sports games around. Fans will be happy to know that the gameplay in Madden NFL 12 stays tight. The assistants don't really do much of anything, and the actions you make between games are negligible compared to your performance on the field. The Franchise mode as a whole is interesting, though has the same problem of feeling unnecessary. Sure, the other version has had these features, but it's nice to see them make it onto the Wii.

You can build your team from scratch using the fantasy Draft option, and all Free Agent purchases are done through real time bidding wars. The rest of us, though, now have a non-motion based alternative control scheme.įranchise mode got beefed up a bit with some new features. For those of you that liked waggling the Wii Remote to catch, or using the pointer to make passes, those controls stay intact. On the improvement front, you can finally play Madden with the Classic Controller, making it feel more like its counterpart on the 360 and PS3. However, the experience feels fundamentally the same. Madden NFL 12 still features the more stylistic, simplified approach to football, with both 5vs5 and 11vs11 modes, as well as a Franchise mode that feels like Madden mixed with a SimCity. In fact it improves on a lot of aspects from last year. Not to say that Madden NFL 12 is a bad game, it's actually pretty good. For the first time, Madden on Wii just feels like a roster update. But for Madden NFL 12, EA Tiburon improved a few of the features, without adding anything new. It evolves significantly each year, which is more than the other versions of Madden can say. For better or worse, Madden NFL on Wii has made numerous, significant changes to its formula over the last few years.
